Geachte Rover liefhebbers,

Wat ik al enige tijd mistte in de voorgevel van de 216 cabriolet uit '96 zijn de mistlampen. Ik vind het mooi als de twee gaten - links en
rechts van de grille opgevuld zijn. Maar ja, waar vind je een set originele mistlampen met de daarbij toebehorende onderdelen zoals relais,
bedrading, bevestigingsmateriaal en een duidelijke omschrijving hoe één en ander gemonteerd en aangesloten moet worden.

Na zoeken vond ik via internet een bedrijf MGLRPARTS LTD waar de complete set (XBQ100790) werd aangeboden voor €265,- incl. verzendkosten.
Na de betaling en een geruim tijd van geen reactie c.q. track and trace nam ik via de mail contact op met het bedrijf. Daar kreeg ik te horen dat er
tijdens een personeelsuitje een ongeluk was gebeurd waarbij personeel betrokken was en dat alle bestellingen opnieuw gedaan diende te worden en dat bestellingen die reeds betaald waren werden terugbetaald. En na een aantal weken kreeg ik de betaling terug.

Jammer maar helaas dacht ik. Toch ben ik verder gaan zoeken en kwam bij een Spaanse site van Enrique Sanchez Spare Parts,
https://recambiosenriquesanchez.com/ een complete set tegen (XBQ100570) voor €210,- incl verzenkosten. Na de betaling en vier dagen had ik de complete set- verpakt in een originele Rover Parts doos in huis. Ook kocht ik een nieuwe airbag en een nieuw stuurwiel. Alles tegen zeer aantrekkelijke prijzen.

Het inbouwen van de mistlampen (ook gebruikt in de Renault 5 Turbo) was een makkelijk klusje. Veel wijst zich vanzelf. Bij de set zaten ook twee mallen met de uitsnijding die je in de voorbumper moet maken. Tot zover alles prima. Maar dan het aansluiten. Ik heb alle stappen nauwkeurig gevolgd maar de lampen doen het niet.

Bij het aansluiten kom je vervolgens bij de zekering kast onder het dashboard uit. zoek de multiplug die boven zekering 16 (achteruitrijlampen en remlichten),17 (radio, sigaret aansteker, achterruitverwarming en spiegelverwarming) , en 18 (elektrische raambediening portieren) zit
Nu wordt er in de montagehandleiding bij punt 36. Zoek de blauw-rode draad van de multiplug boven zekering 16,17,18. Knip deze op 50mm. van de zekeringkast door en verbind die met de blauwe draad (met de male Lucar verbinder) uit de kabelboom van de mistlampen. Neem het andere deel van de blauw-rode draad en verbind die met de blauwe draad (met de female Lucar verbinder)uit de kabelboom van de mistlampen.

Als ik kijk in de zekering onder het dashboard en kijk in het instructieboekje van 1995 zie ik dat in het linker deel van de zekeringkast (satellietdeel)
zekering 20 is bestemd voor de mistlampen voor. Nu wil het geval dat in mijn 216 R8 uit 96 wel ruimte is bestemd voor een zekering maar geen contact in der zekering kast is aangebracht. Als ik er een zekering indruk valt de zekering er zo uit. Hoe kan ik dit oplossen. Er zijn namelijk wel cabrio's met mistlampen. Hierbij een aantal foto's en een schema van de zekeringkast. MVG Eric

I need to see what is written in the instructions, and figure out what is expected in order to see what is wrong.

Another question: is it possible to transfer a leather-covered steering wheel from an MG F / MG TF with airbag into a Rover 216 R8 convertible?

Thank you for uploading fitting instructions. That enabled me to see what is expected and where to go.

What I see is that XBQ100570 fog lamps kit is intended to be fitted on 1993 Rover cars. As I see from your post you have 1996 Rover Cabrio.

You need to know that fusebox under steering wheel for 1993 Rover 200/400 is different from 1996 Rover cabrio, so you cannot use it in sense to follow the fitting instructions to the letter, but you need to have wiring diagram of 1993 Rover and 1996 Rover and make modifications. Newertheless fuseboxes looks the same they are not wired in the same way.

However fuseboxes have one thing that is the same and that are 2 connectors from fitting instruction point 35.

On the other hand fitting instructions point 36 is completely different. My question is which wire you cut, since there is no Blue wire with Red trace in that connector? This is important because we need to find out which wire is cut in order to see what is not going to work as you cut that wire. I assume that some instrument light or dial is not working.

But, since fuseboxes have connectors from fitting point 35 the same what is done in point 36 should not influence the working of the front fogs, if everything else is connected as it should be.

You are aware that front fogs can work only in case you have headlamps (side, dip or main beam) switched to on?

Have you connected all earth points in proper order in a way described and made sure contact is firm without any paint or other isolator inbetween?

Thank you very much for your detailed explanation. It is very nice that you responded.
After I followed the instructions and connected everything as described, the fog lights turned out not to work.
I then wrote the message on this site.

After that, I restored everything to the original situation. I have disconnected the connectors
that were supposed to be connected under point 35. I have reconnected the wires that were cut under point 36
as in the original situation.

The ground points are connected as described in the instructions, without insulation or paint in between.

I know that the fog lights only work when the headlights (daytime running lights, low beam, or high beam) are switched on.

Do you want me to upload the diagram showing how things would be connected so you can check with multimeter if you have voltage power?

Also can you check that you have voltage on 2 points in fusebox under point 35 from installation diagram? Point where Brown wire is going should have permanent 12V and point where Red/Black wire is going should have 12V when light switch is on.

A diagram showing how everything needs to be connected would be
very helpful. I do have a workshop manual ('92-'93), but the front fog lights are not discussed in it. There is also nothing in it about the convertible top. I think this is purely a workshop manual for the 214 and 216. There will likely be an extra addition/chapter for the front fog lights.

Here is wiring diagram of yoir foglams you bought in the kit (they should be connected in this way). Disregard wire colours in the diagram as I do not know wire colours you got within your kit.

Additional text I inserted have numbers corresponding to designated number within fitting instructions.

Green relay sole function is to control how rear fogs switch will behave. This is specific to 1993 cars. Having in mind that your car is 1996 and you have different fusebox and also different behaviour of rear fogs, it is not possible to use this part of wiring as there is no point reverting it to 1993 logic. In this sense you can skip fitting instruction points 36. to 39. and not use Green Changeover Relay at all. Just isolate blue wires ends on foglamp harnes you get in the kit.

N wire power comes directly from your car battery. Because of that you have inline 20A fuse.
RB wire power comes from fusebox when lights are switched on.
